No-exam life insurance
Which applicants qualify for fast underwriting, how it works, and what to expect if you don't.
A growing number of carriers use faster underwriting pathways: for applicants who meet age and coverage-amount parameters, they rely on your application, pharmacy records, motor-vehicle records and related databases rather than scheduling a medical visit. Approval can come within hours. You'll see on each quote here whether a medical exam is mandatory, conditional, or not expected.
What it changes
Skipping an exam is not the same as skipping underwriting. Carriers verify your responses, and a policy issued based on incomplete information may be contested in the first two years. If a carrier's background check turns up something that needs clarification, they can request testing or exams; at that point you decide whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Usually those under 60 or so, applying for amounts within the carrier's streamlined underwriting limits, with no serious prior health issues and no tobacco use within the past year or more. Some carriers will accept recent bloodwork from your doctor in place of a paramedical exam.
If testing is necessary, plan on a 20- to 30-minute visit from a paramedical professional at your location in the Irvine vicinity—no charge to you. For applicants in good condition, an exam may actually yield a superior rating, so it's not always negative.
